Hmmm...

Here our little guy is by the window, and hanging out in his little pod bouncer from his dear friend JJ...  He is  not quite sure what to make of it all...

Finding Normal...

I made dinner tonight for the first time in a long time.  We have been heating up food that was brought to us, but I haven't cooked start to finish in ages.
Little Brennan amused himself for a time in a swing...  This was a few hours before a crying jag that lasted off and on for a few hours--seems like he is not quite sure which end is up.

We both took a good nap today, I am working on a schedule of sorts--as much for him as for me.  Part of my plan is to get out of the house--felt really nice to go downstairs to the market, and wander around the neighborhood.  Haven't figured out how to make phone calls, pay bills, etc. while balancing it all, and I suppose it will all come (back) to me gradually.

He sure is sweet, and I enjoy being with him so much.

This and that...

Our little one is just over 2 weeks old now and is doing splendidly.  He is eating like crazy, and sleeping well.  We are supplementing with a little formula to keep him on track for weight gain and I am working on getting my nursing production up!  Easier said than done.  More nights than not we have be getting 7+ hours of sleep with 2-3 feedings--very doable.  Every couple of days he doesn't sleep much during the day, still working on that.  He seems to be so interested in looking around and being awake.  And I know how important it is for him to be getting more hours of sleep...

Not sure...

about this whole car seat business.  Once he is situated and we are moving he is fine.  He looks a little shell-shocked by the whole ordeal here...

Going to Farmer's Market with Nonna Mikie

My mom has been here since the end of March and she is leaving to go home to Montana early next week :-(
It has been so nice having her here.  A bittersweet reminder that I have gotten "use to" not having her close by since her move in 1995.
It was fun to be out with Brennan, and just being together--I think we imagined this for ourselves WEEKS ago.  So sweet...

Out and about...

Here were are taking a walk down to Glen Canyon with Uncle Brad and Tita Teresa...  Brennan is in the sling, sacked out--he loves being in it!  The snuggle factor and the motion when I walk must remind him of all those months in my belly.

Oh, BIG yawn...

Visitors...

We had a few visitors today... Tita Teresa, Uncle Adam, (soon to be) Auntie Marianne and Nonna Mikie all came by at some point for a little B time...

Adam was at the hospital when Brennan was born, but didn't really get to meet him before he was whisked away to the NICU.  Bren napped for 2 hours+ on Adam's chest while I got a nap too!  So sweet...

For the Grandparents...

Our first "top and tail" sponge bath:

He has found his thumb, and is infinitely interested in his hands...

He is breastfeeding like a little champ, and I am just hoping to catch/keep up with him.  I have been pumping since day one, and the lactation consultant that helped us out before we left the hospital on Saturday was very impressed at how easily he latched on and nursed...  He fussed off and on for a few hours the first night home.  Of course with the first six nights of his life in NICU, we have no idea what his cycle is yet.  He definitely has the newborn nocturnal going on, and he was much more engaged during the daytime both Sunday and Monday.

Brennan Leaves Newborn ICU--Yippee!!!

Our little guy leaves the ICU:

Leaving the hospital:

We are ready to go home!!:

We are so very grateful for the good care that was provided for both of us, and we are SO ready to put this behind us and move on to our new version of "normal".

So many thanks to you all for you love and support.

Here we go...

Just returned from our last appointment with our midwife, and the results of the non-stress test indicate that my ambiotic fluid is on the low side of acceptable for 41+ weeks.  We are going to the hospital tonight to start induction, and we will go from there!  We'll keep you posted.
Much love from all of us!

Still here...

No fun pictures--pictures of us waiting patiently, and eating out a lot wouldn't really be that interesting, now would they??  Thought something was really happening last night, but the contractions stalled after a few hours.  It will be the real thing one of these day--maybe tomorrow!!  Would love for the little guy to be here for Mother's Day...

Babywatch 2008...

No real news to report...  We had a non-stress test today, and the little guy seems to be a happy camper just hanging out in there--his heart rate and the fluid level were both good.  Both my brother and I were born at least a week late, and my mom and one of her sisters were 2 weeks and 3+ weeks late...  I think it is my genetic gestational path.  Our midwives (and the doctors they practice with) will not let me go beyond 42 weeks.  I had the first of three acupuncture treatments today with the hope that that will get things going...
We'll keep you posted!

Much love,
K

Due Date!!

Well, here we are... May 1st aka DUE DATE.  He is still safely in my belly and we play a little more of the waiting game...

Justin and I took advantage of our "free" day and drove down to Half Moon Bay for the afternoon, and enjoyed the beautiful weather.

It was a lovely way to commemorate our little one's Due Date--a walk around and drink at the Ritz-Carlton, and then we drove a little further down to Duarte's in Pescadero for an early dinner of cioppino and artichokes with olallieberry pie for dessert!  Yum!

He will be here soon, and we'll keep you posted!
